History

Well, here we are... on the eve of the 2009 Presidential Election. Quite frankly, I'm sick of the campaigns and chatter and ready to see what tomorrow brings. Perhaps I wouldn't mind it so much if it wasn't what seems our news media just trying to keep on talking about every little thing--honestly, I'm surprised we don't know the brand of underwear each candidate wears! And, with the election results...ugh. I got home a bit ago & turned on the TV & instantly hear "Christian whites favor McCain in West Virginia"... "suburban voters back Obama"... yada yada yada. I hate the exit poll results. I was hoping there would be someone at my place so I could just make something up...lol. I guess the chatter would not bug me if we stuck to the historical perspective of things. I mean... ya gotta admit it is something with a minority on either side. Of course I am old enough to recall that this is not our first female VP candidate, but there is certainly history in the making. Makes me chuckle of the "Archie Bunkers" that are still out there...holy heck...a woman? a black? Wonder if they are all heading for the deep hills of WV? LOL

Anyway... onto some more history. This weekend I finally got back to my folks place to dig out my old room. Good grief...talk about memories I found ...
  • 1986-1987 YM & Teen Magazines, with many pages of hunks such as Kirk Cameron cut out.
  • Old board games that were rarely played since I was an only child... Monopoloy, Life, Operation
  • photos from High School
  • my High School Band jacket!
  • old t-shirts from high school
  • letters from early 90s from friends of the past
  • stuffed animals from Grange Fairs of 20-odd years ago
  • children's books... not only mine, but ones that were my Mom's!
  • 80s hand-held computer games... old school style!
  • an Atari controller....
  • Barbies
  • empty boxes--seriously, why would I have kept them???

What a find... of course, most of it was bagged up & tossed. Only to have regrets on Monday afternoon when it dawned on me that in today's fancy techno era I should have checked on E-Bay to see if I could have sold any of that stuff!!!!!!!!! DUH... Oh well... I hope some dumpster-diver finds something & it changes their lives for the better. Besides, let's face it, if I would have showed my mother she would have kept it all for another 20 years anyway! LOL

It was great to revisit the memories of days gone by.... to think of the history of things that made me who I am today. It was also good to purge the history as well... to finally close that door and move forward. I don't regret anything of my past--beyond maybe realizing that letitng things affect me negatively only brings sadness to myself.

Every instance of yesterday affected today...and today affects tomorrow. The only constant is Change...and I'm ready for a change.

I wonder.. is the country ready for a change? Are we FINALLY ready to let go of hatred and bitterness of the past? Ready to see the person beyond the skin color or Alaskan accent? Are we ready for what tomorrow may bring?
